About Seeds

A practice,
led by an OT.

Seeds brings together independent occupational therapists in a practice led by Nisha Bal, our founder and occupational therapist. You choose your caseload and use your professional judgement to plan support with each family. Seeds helps families find a suitable OT and handles enquiries, referrals and billing.

“I want our OTs to be thinking about what a child and family need, without the added pressure of meeting a weekly billing target.”
Nisha Bal Founder and Principal OT

Our OTs work as independent subcontracted practitioners, with colleagues to talk things through with and optional mentoring and supervision. Seeds prioritises fair remuneration, putting as much as we can towards the OTs doing the work while keeping the practice sustainable.

Travel and funding

Travel is calculated from your location, not an office. The kilometre rate is passed on to help cover the running cost of your car.

Seeds works with self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants and privately funded families at the same rate. We do not currently bill NDIA-managed plans directly.

What you need before starting

ABN, AHPRA registration, Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check, professional indemnity and public liability insurance, a driver's licence and access to a car.

Optional · when you want more clients

When you have room for more families, we can promote your availability in the areas you choose. We agree on the approach with you, based on where you work and how many clients you want.

Campaigns for your area

We regularly run Google Ads to help families find our OTs. We plan this around where you work and how many more clients you would like.

Your profile and availability

An interactive availability page shows where you work. Your own detailed profile introduces your approach, experience and interests.

Local referral connections

Depending on the area, we may reach out to GPs, allied health practices and schools, and use social media campaigns where helpful.

Enquiries and timing vary; client numbers aren’t guaranteed. You can accept or decline every referral.

Nisha Bal (example)

Founder and Principal OT

In her own words

“I started Seeds because I wanted therapy to happen in the places children actually live. That hasn't changed.”

My approach

And I work with parents in the room rather than sending them out. What I notice, I say. What I'm trying, I explain. The goal is that by the end of a visit, the parent has something they can actually use for the rest of the week.

Experience and approach

What we look for
in an OT.

Paediatric experience is welcome, but it is not essential. We can talk about your experience, the work you feel ready for and the support that would be useful.

You start with the child and family.

You listen, build trust and stay curious. You value working alongside families, educators and other professionals.

You are thoughtful about your practice.

You reflect, ask questions and keep learning. You work within your scope and broaden it as your confidence and skills develop.

You take professional responsibility.

You are AHPRA registered, keep clear records and follow through with families. You recognise when a case needs more support or a different service.

You can discuss cases with Nisha and the other Seeds OTs. Mentoring and supervision with Nisha are optional, and we can talk about the support that would be useful to you.

Our clinical approachConnection, context and everyday life

Connection before correction

We build trust before we build skills. The relationship with the child and family comes first.

Supporting regulation

We notice regulation and read behaviour as communication, rather than pushing through distress.

Starting with strengths

We work with what a child enjoys and does well, in the home where their everyday life happens.

The Seeds OT Model

Our clinical reasoning framework helps organise thinking when the picture is complex or uncertain. It sits alongside approaches you may already use. We ask what pattern keeps recurring, and under what conditions.

  • Biology & nervous system
  • Family & relationships
  • Daily occupations
  • Environment
  • School & peers
  • Culture & society

From there, we consider what can change, what can be accommodated and what needs to be respected. The PDF explains the framework in more detail.

Common questions

Questions about
working with us.

If your question is not here, you can ask Nisha directly.

Email Nisha
Would I be an employee or a subcontractor?

Our OTs work as independent subcontractors, not salaried employees. You choose your availability, travel areas and caseload. Seeds offers suitable referrals, provides Halaxy and handles enquiries, invoicing and payment follow-up.

How much will I be paid, including travel?

You receive $125 per hour, paid fortnightly, plus travel time at $97 per hour (up to 30 minutes each way) and $1 per kilometre with no kilometre cap. We go through the payment and travel arrangements with you before you start.

Are there billing targets or minimum client numbers?

No. We do not set weekly billing targets, minimum client numbers or report quotas. Some OTs keep a small caseload alongside another role or family commitments; others build a fuller week. Both are fine.

Can I choose where and when I work?

Yes. You tell us which days you are available and the areas you are comfortable travelling to. A wider travel area can create more referral options, but the choice is yours. Your availability can change over time.

Can I choose which referrals I take?

Yes. We give you the relevant information and you decide whether to accept or decline each referral. If you are unsure, you can talk it through with Nisha Bal or another Seeds OT before deciding.

How will I get clients?

Seeds receives enquiries through its website and referral network. If you would like more clients, we can also promote your availability through Google Ads, a local availability page and your therapist profile. Depending on your area, we may contact GP clinics, allied health practices and schools, or use social media. We plan this with you, and it is optional. Referral numbers and timing vary.

What does the administration team do?

They respond to new enquiries, speak with families, gather referral information, coordinate referrals, manage invoicing and follow up payments. We use Halaxy for appointments, clinical notes and invoicing, and we will help you learn the system.

Is supervision compulsory?

No. Supervision, mentoring and case support with Nisha Bal are available when you want them. You might prefer regular support at first, or simply get in touch when a particular case needs another perspective.

Will I still be part of a team?

Yes. You can talk with Nisha and the other Seeds OTs, discuss cases and share resources. You manage your own caseload, and you have colleagues to turn to when you want another perspective.
